Midea 8000 BTU U-shaped Air Conditioner review: energy efficient without sacrificing performance
Midas’ beautifully designed U-shaped air conditioners are ideal for cooling places in the house without central air. I bought my very first home that I’ve dreamed about since the beginning of August. And I knew that I had to buy an older house with an extra amount of maintenance. This house that I eventually purchased is now 140 years old. The building has been working on it recently but most of it remains fixed. As it’s an older house, the house does not have central air.
Design
Midea’s U-shaped ACs offer unique features, such as allowing the windows to be located inside of air conditioning units. Unlike traditional architecture it offers several disadvantages: The window just rests. This means your equipment will be extremely strong. The air-conditioner’s window is secure. This also helps to make the room quiet. Locking the compressor behind the glass keeps it away. The newest Midea model is nine times the quieter as compared with traditional windows.
There’s an app for that
In addition it provides an attractive Midea app. It’s not perfect and the log outs are strange. Like most smart phones this one is intuitive. You can change settings directly on your Air Conditioning Device by using this application. It is easy to create a schedule and that’s great. I was worried that it’s going to waste energy if I heat up my rooms in my garage that I don’t actually use. The air conditioning is on for 2 hours before I go to bed and turns off at dawn.
Installation Process
The steps are vague and make the entire installation process seem confusing and overwhelming. In reality, it’s not too difficult. It does take a lot more time than normal window AC units, which you can just plop down and plug in within a few minutes of unboxing. I recommend watching this YouTube video from Midea.
While its designs are fantastic it needs work for enjoyment. The installation is a bit difficult for Midea if they think they can. I’ve had window units for air conditioning for years. It was not fun, but it was quite clear. Installation was no different – no. I had to learn how to use the manual from front to back and I also needed help from my parents. The Midea U is pinned to a mounting bracket unlike many other window units on the marketplace.
Eco-friendly
The Midea U.S. has been the best alternative to electric vehicles and is now the most efficient. When trying out how efficient are air conditioners using CEER, combine efficiency ratio. It can reduce fans speeds and save energy while protecting your space from clogged air. CEER defined as a ratio of measured temperature output in watts per hour and measured average electrical energy in watts. The more CEER ratings the better its energy efficiency.
Size matters
I didn’t take into account the way much the air conditioning safety bracket is from the window. This problem is not necessarily the biggest problem for others. I live in a neighborhood where the buildings are quite close together and I also share a hallway between the neighbors. If our homes are closer to each other it may cause glare and require relocating in other rooms if they are closer.
Overall
The Mida U is among my favorite windows air conditioners. They are quiet, they have excellent application integration, but they haven’t resulted in thousands in energy expenses. It’s difficult to find a midea u.s. air conditioner that works with the midea system.
Performance
I used the Midea U for nearly two weeks and this has been amazing. The 8000 BTU units were chosen as they had already warned about its size and would be very cold in my home. However I think it keeps all the upstairs rooms of my home at 73 degrees comfortable.
Is Midea a good air conditioner?
As a result of this design choice, the Midea U is the quietest window air conditioning we have ever tried.
That’s a lot quieter than my older window AC, which blared at 68 decibels (akin to a noisy restaurant or a vacuum). You can also slide your window open without worrying about the AC unit falling out of your window and crushing some poor soul on the street. That’s thanks to the bracket, which manages the AC’s load by leaning against the outside wall.

This has several advantages over the traditional style, where the window merely rests on top. First, it means that your unit is incredibly stable. With the air conditioner locked in place by the pane of glass, it feels more secure.

Energy Star models will have a CEER rating of 12.1 or higher. The 8,000 BTU Midea U Air Conditioner has a CEER rating of 15. It won the Energy Star 2020’s Most Efficient award — the first window AC unit ever to do so. It uses 37.61% less energy than the US Federal Standard, too. The estimated yearly cost of the Midea U is under $50, assuming that you’re using it for 8 hours a day for three months, with the average electricity cost of 13 cents per kWh.
Are U-shaped air conditioners quieter?
The U-shaped block compressor noise outside, enabling quiet operation at a maximum noise of 42deg.
It also keeps my home extremely cool, feeling more like central air conditioning than a window unit. I would definitely purchase again and I have recommended to many people. Installation a little more involved than a traditional window air conditioner but so worth the effort. I am presently searching for the best cover for the 10,000 u shaped as winter approaches here in New England in the hopes that we can leave it in the window without damaging the unit.
Do I need to drain my Midea portable air conditioner?
Yeah. The liquid is stored in a crate. Water evaporates and passes over an exhaust valve in water vapor. Occasionally it needs to be drained in humid environments.
Midea says it will work for windows between 22 and 36 inches wide, and the minimum window opening height is about 14 inches. Next, you have to use the included bracket to install this window AC, so don’t think you can toss it aside; and you will need a screwdriver to secure some components into place, but that’s about it.
